What are the main differences between hemp seed oil and cbd oil?
Hemp seed oil and CBD oil both come from the hemp plant. Both oils are extracted from industrial hemp which is legal to grow under license in most countries. Neither hemp seed oil or CBD oil contain THC which is used for recreational or medicinal use of marijuana. Therefore, even though these oils come from the hemp (also known as cannabis / marijuana) plant, you will not get high.
There are a number of differences between hemp seed oil and CBD oil which are important to know.
The first obvious difference is the cost. CBD oil is much more expensive to process and extract from the hemp plant so is more valuable than hemp seed oil. Hemp seed oil can be purchased very cheaply and some people do get confused with the two. Some people buy hemp seed oil thinking that they will get the benefits of CBD oil when in reality, they will not.
Both hemp seed oil and cbd oil contain vitamins and nutrients such as essential omega fatty acids. However, only CBD oil contains the cannabinoids (CBDs) at a high enough level to be beneficial. Hemp seed oil, therefore, will not give you the same beneficial effects that CBD oil will.
What is hemp seed oil?
Hemp seed oil is extracted from the seeds of the hemp plant. This is normally extracted using a cold-press process which helps to preserve the plant’s nutritious value. Hemp seed oil is similar in consistency to olive oil. It has a slight green color and nutty flavour. It can be used in much the same way as olive oil as a cooking oil or as a salad dressing.
It is also a great moisturiser for your skin because it contains alpha-linolenic acid (omega-3) and linoleic acid (omega-6) which are often used by cosmetic companies for their positive effects on the skin.
Hemp seed oil is considered a superfood. It is naturally high in essential fatty acid content and has lots of omega 3 and omega 6 fatty acids. Hemp also contains gamma linolenic acid (GLA) at a much higher concentration than any other plant. This GLA offers anti-inflammatory properties which hemp and CBD oil are famous for. It also helps to boost immune systems.
It is a fantastic substitute for other similar food oils.
What is CBD oil?
CBD oil is a thick, viscous oil with high levels of cannabinoids, including a high content of CBD. Cannabinoids naturally occur in the hemp plant.
Whereas hemp seed oil is made from the seeds of the hemp plant, CBD oil is made from the seeds and the stalks of the hemp plant. Instead of being cold-pressed, the CBD (or the essence of hemp) is extracted using specialist technology utilising CO2. This is a time consuming and expensive process.
CBD oil also contains all the healthy nutrients that hemp seed oil contains but with the addition of the cannabinoids (CBDs) which are believed to help fight stress, anxiety, depression and encourage general well-being.
CBD oil has become an extremely popular product as a legal, non-psychoactive source of cannabinoids. It is now grown on industrial levels in the USA as well as Europe.
